COVID-19 UPDATE: my Midtown Manhattan office is currently closed. I am available for online therapy sessions (for NY residents only) via a secure video platform.

It’s finally (finally!) beginning to feel like spring here in New York City. Last week I finally put away my winter coat, hat, boots, and heavy scarf. Now it’s time for light jackets, umbrellas, and sunshine. The spring always seems to me like such a joyful, light, and lively time. Flowers are blooming, days are longer, and possibilities are everywhere. Doesn’t spring seem like a better time to make resolutions than in the dark and cold of January 1stHere are some ideas to get you started.

1. Spring clean your life. The old adage of “out with the old, in with the new” can apply to anything in your life – clutter in your apartment, your stuffed closet, commitments that drag you down, friendships that feel exhausting rather than energizing. What can you move out of your life (with as little guilt as possible!) to make way for something new – or just to have a little bit more space?

2. Move your body. Take a long walk, try a new exercise class, do one yoga pose. Or just start with three deep breaths. After the cold, closed-in feeling of winter, spring invites us to move and play. (It’s possible I skipped down the sidewalk the other day…) Listen to what your body wants and needs.

3. Try something new. A green juice. A different route to the office. Chai tea instead of coffee. Coffee instead of chai tea. An action movie if you usually only watch comedies. The possibilities are endless – but just try changing one thing and notice if anything else in your life begins to shift.

Leave me a comment below and tell me what your spring resolution is. If you’re in the New York City area, I hope to see you on May 4th at Release & Renew, the spring yoga & drumming workshop I’ll be co-leading with Shannon Sodano in beautiful Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Hope you can join us!
